Tri-Cities Freeze Watch: Bitter Cold Ahead, Protect Your Home Before Saturday Morning

Cold weather is making an early appearance in the Tri-Cities!

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch from Friday evening, October 23, through Saturday morning, October 24, with temperatures potentially dropping to 25°F–30°F.

The alert includes the Lower Columbia Basin, including the Tri-Cities, along with parts of the Yakima Valley and surrounding areas.

These freezing conditions could damage outdoor plumbing, harm sensitive plants, and affect local gardens and crops.

5 Simple Ways to Prepare Before the Freeze

Protect outdoor faucets. Disconnect garden hoses, drain outdoor water lines where possible, and cover exposed faucets.

Bring sensitive plants indoors. Cover vulnerable garden plants and move potted plants to a protected area.

Check your heating system. Make sure your furnace or heat pump is operating properly before temperatures drop.

Keep your home comfortably heated. Maintain consistent indoor warmth and avoid shutting off the heat overnight.

Check on your neighbors. A quick reminder can help elderly neighbors, family members, and friends prepare.

A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way

Whether you're in Pasco, Kennewick, Richland, or West Richland, now is a good time to prepare your home for the colder nights ahead.
